Located at the border between Yong’an District and Qieding District in Kaohsiung, the Hsinta Power Plant covers approximately 135 hectares and is the third-largest thermal power plant in Taiwan in terms of power generation capacity. The plant supplies around 4% of Taiwan’s total electricity demand, playing a critical role in supporting both daily public needs and industrial development.
The stable operation of such a large-scale power generation facility relies heavily on the continuous efforts of maintenance personnel and engineers. From hardware equipment to software control systems, every aspect requires careful inspection, maintenance, and management to ensure safe, stable, and efficient power generation operations.
2. Challenge
However, after several years of operation, although the customized wooden enclosure itself remained intact, the internal pressure gauge eventually required replacement due to instrument failure.
At that point, Hsinta Power Plant faced a challenging issue — in order to retain the existing customized wooden box, the newly installed pressure gauge had to match the original mounting dimensions while also meeting several special requirements:
- An internal thread design was required instead of the more common external thread connection.
- The threaded connection could not protrude beyond the wooden enclosure, ensuring compatibility with the existing structure and installation space.
- A mechanical pressure gauge was preferred over the original digital gauge to provide more convenient and intuitive on-site pressure reading.
To satisfy all of these conditions, Hsinta ultimately had no choice but to seek a fully customized pressure gauge solution. However, due to the highly specialized specifications and installation limitations, the development and manufacturing process became extremely challenging.
3. Client demands
Generally speaking, pressure gauges cannot be “completely” customized. In most cases, so-called customization refers to limited modifications based on existing standard designs in order to meet specific customer requirements. The primary reason is cost efficiency.
Developing entirely new molds requires significant tooling investment. If manufacturers created exclusive molds for every individual customer, production costs would often exceed the actual economic benefit. As a result, most instrumentation factories establish standardized dimensions and structures that customers can select and adapt for their applications.
As an experienced pressure gauge supplier, SJ Gauge understood the complexity of Hsinta Power Plant’s request. Not only were the specifications highly specialized, but the required quantity was also extremely small — fewer than 30 units. Under such conditions, very few manufacturers would be willing to undertake the project.
